The stricken look on Nan’s face had me balling my hands into fists. Mom had gotten tired of hearing Nan ask about her father.
He wasn’t there, Nan whispered as a small sob escaped. My mother only gave Nan attention when she needed to dress her up and show her off. Her bottom lip quivered as she stared up at me with those sad eyes of hers. Strands of Nan’s strawberry-blond curls stuck to her wet face.
If you didn’t have one, bad things happened. I’m here, Nan, I said as I stood up from the beanbag chair I’d been sitting on in the corner. Rush? Nan’s voice called out with a hiccup. My mom couldn’t handle the stress involved. I’d be the one who would need to soothe Nan. Mom had called me on the way home to tell me what she’d done and that now she needed to go out to have some cocktails with friends. There was a knock at the door, then just the small shuffle of feet. To every reader out there who has a Rush Crush. Even with the above, I actually really did enjoy the book and I look forward to reading the next one in this Rosemary Beach series. Since I had read the first book of the series a while ago, it would have been helpful to be given more of a clue as to what happened in the first book since this was a continued story. And the constantly changing family tree is a little annoying.
Their relationship is like a high school romance, intense with lots of angst. Do I hold out much hope for their relationship? Not really. And then there is Rush, who has the maturity of a 12 year old and is a clueless idiot who is constantly making the wrong choices. Cain and Woods make fools of themselves as if she's the only woman in the world Cain is like a lovesick puppy who thinks he will never love another, Woods is just waiting in the wings for when Blaire's life falls apart.
That being said, what is it with Blaire and the magic spell she seems to have over men that make them fall all over themselves worshipping her. Never too far was a quick little book I read in one day, good for a beach book not a lot of substance but an enjoyable romp with some delicious sex scenes.
